Mana Wairua

Mana Wairua - A Spiritual Journey contains original poetry written purely straight from the heart and soul. There are many gifted people of all ages around the World that sit in silence not because they choose to but because they are too scared to come out. The main purpose of my poetry is to empower people of all ages and cultures to follow their own spiritual paths and truths. I have incorporated it with Maori superstition, knowledge and wisdom that have been passed down through generations. It's very New Zealand heartland and unique even down to all the illustrations. This book is for the people. Everyone has a right to walk their own path without being judged or singled out. If more people took the time out to understand or educate these gifted souls it would reduce the fear within and around the subject. Enabling these individuals to emerge and become their true authentic selves in turn acquire self-love, balance, harmony and inner understanding.

Choose to follow your own spiritual path in life
Where ever it may take you
Don't fear
Have the courage to seek your own truth
Be true to your heart
"The vision is truly yours"

Mana Wairua - A Spiritual Journey Poetry.  The book was launched on May 09 2015 and aims to empower people to follow their own true paths also incorporating it with Maori superstition and wisdom that has been passed down through generations.

I first received Kitrina's book "Mana Wairua" and I was amidst a stressful chaotic time, I glanced over a couple of poems and just remember seeing raw, the importance of her Maori heritage, authenticity and a real down to earth element to her work, but aware I wasn't really taking it in.  I have since picked up her book and I am taken on an enlightened deep soulful adventure.  The Spirits Bay in Cape Reinga is hanuntingly powerful and I can imagine myself immersed in its prescence and tranquility.  With Tangaroa Kitrina takes us step by step along the beach reminding me of the healing and peace I find there.  Kitrinas poems are very personal, but they take you on a spiritual journey of your own.  I feel the enormity and love of her connection with her whanau, iwi and her whakapapa and the land/sea/sky.  I find myself respect for Kitrina, for her heritage, for her courage and willingness to be vulnerable and open and share - her words leave me inspired and encouraged to follow my dreams and reminded of whats important.  A down to earth celebration of culture, spirituality, life and love.

Wishing you all the best of success Kitrina

~ INSPIRATION ~

Family and culture are vital to me and provide the inspiration for my poetry.

Mum died 10 years ago. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1995. This was a very hard and sad time. Indigenous peoples and ethnic minorities are being diagnosed with schizophrenia at significantly higher rates than majority groups all around the world. Many of these people are spiritual/matakite (psychic). They are born with these gifts that have been passed down through genealogy and culture. It’s a shame that these people are judged and not educated in how to control, understand, and utilise their gifts without harming themselves or others. It’s just a way of life for some I guess. Growing up they’re told to be strong and handle it. Pushing the subject away only turns into fear and a lack of understanding causing depression and mental like illnesses as such. Schizophrenia is sometimes the easiest prognosis for medical professionals as there is just no other explanation for what the subject is seeing and hearing.

A famous whakatauki (proverb) from the Aotea waka, which shows the importance of your genealogy and your culture.
He kākano ahau i ruia mai i Rangiātea
“I am a seed which was sewn in the heavens of Rangiatea”
